How Vigorous Exercise Can Help Restrain Your Appetite
Recently, I just read an article about how vigorous exercise can help restrain your appetite. In the post, I want to share with you what I learnt about the reasons why people aren't loosing weight.
A recent study was conducted by scientists form Loughborough University with 16, healthy and fit, men. They were separated into two groups, each of which would focus on one factor of exercise.
The first group focused on intensity. The scientists made the men visit the university's performance lab on 3 occasions. On the first, the men sat quietly for hours, on the second, they jogged on a treadmill at 50% of their capacity until they burnt 600 calories (55 minutes) and the on the last, they ran around 75% of their capacity until they had burnt 600 calories again (36 minutes). Throughout their workouts, scientists drew blood to check the levels of Acylated Ghrelin (a hormone) which influences appetite. Generally, when Acylated Ghrelin levels were higher, so are the hunger levels, so the the men were asked about their hunger.
The scientists performed the same tasks with the second group but these men's workouts focused on length. So one day the ran for 45 minutes at a steady pace and on another they did the same for 90 minutes
The scientists compared the numbers and in general, exercise had lowered the men's Acylated Ghrelin compared to when they sat. Vigorous running had blunted Acylated Ghrelin production more than gentler jogging and longer runs than briefer ones.
From this experiment we have learnt the vigorous exercise is NOT bad, but in fact it is making the body do something. When one is sitting for several hours, they tend to want to do something and eating is often the result. So you should exercise vigorously to curb your diet!
